It's macOS Ventura Launch Day!

Apple is releasing macOS 13 Ventura today, and we couldn't be more excited to support it here at JumpCloud! We are not expecting any issues with JumpCloud on macOS Ventura, and in fact, we're excited to support some of its new management features at launch!

We've got a few new features in JumpCloud useful for admin:

  1. Managed Login Items Policy - macOS 13 Ventura puts users in the driver's seat in new ways, including allowing them to deactivate persistent software that may include JumpCloud's agents, security agents, and other key pieces of software. Apple's opinion is that users should be in closer control of their devices. Admins have options, though, and you can allowlist your launchdaemons, launchagents, and keep your platform software running. Don't worry about the JC agent, though, if we're your MDM, your JC agent is safe and sound. If you're not using JC MDM, you should download and apply this policy. If you're a Jamf Pro customer, make sure you're using Jamf Pro 10.42 to install it on macOS 13.

  2. Delay Major macOS Upgrades - You can use MDM to delay the advertisement and installation of major macOS versions for up to 90 days! If you're not yet using Patch Management policies (which are free to try, btw!) you can use this policy to delay macOS 13 Ventura on your MDM-managed devices for up to 90 days (set your calendar, 22 January 2023 is when macOS Ventura will no longer be delayable!) and make sure final testing is complete. If you intend to delay macOS Ventura past November 23rd, 2022, you need to be on macOS 12.6.1, out today.
  3. Block macOS Ventura Installer App - You can block macOS Ventura's installer app directly using this policy, which will watch for macOS Ventura and kill the installer app.

In addition, we have a number of new KBs:

And Apple has a number of key KBs you should read:

  • HT213327 Whatโ€™s new for enterprise in macOS Ventura
  • HT212586 Whatโ€™s new for enterprise in macOS Monterey
  • HT213356 If you see a message that macOS Server is not supported when upgrading to macOS Ventura
  • HT213268 Whatโ€™s new in the updates for macOS Ventura

We're excited to hear more from our users about the great things that they're doing with their Apple devices, and of course we're always happy to work with customers having trouble with new releases, or need advice on deployment and deployment strategies.

Happy Launch Day!
