Hello JumpCloud Community!
October is here, and among the many fun and spooky things you might find yourself getting into as autumn sets in, nothing is more fun (and I guess, more spooky ๐ฌ) than thinking about security. October is officially Cybersecurity Awareness Month and we'll be echoing all the hard work the good folks at CISA are doing to help get the word out and make sure we all know the role we play in Securing Our World.
As a regular observer of this annual tradition, I think it's important to highlight at the beginning that there's different types of awareness we in the IT community (whether you're a practitioner, vendor, service provider, or something in between) should strive for, which includes:
- Awareness of what goes into good, healthy, and secure behaviors online and IRL;
- Awareness of what it takes to implement sound, reliable, and effective security programs and tools to create a secure environment; and, of course,
- Awareness of the people (that's you!) who work so hard to protect the rest of us from all the bads that threaten our regular digital lives every day.
So here's to you, your guidance, your patience, and your ongoing desire to teach and learn and spread best practices to all that will listen. CISA starts us off simply enough, with 4 easy ways to stay safe online. How do you stay safe online? Please share your tips and tricks to keep yourself (not IT you, but human you) safe online so that we can all up our personal game!

Also, we talked about Cybersecurity Awareness Month during last week's IT Hour (you can watch the replay via that link).
We're discussing one of the four themes every week and last week was: use strong passwords and a password manager. For anyone who missed it, security awareness was launched in Oct. 2024 by the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the US DHS. This is the twentieth anniversary y'all!
Pretty cool. And don't forget that on 10.25 it's our annual Spooky IT Stories edition where you can tell your ๐ท Tech Tales of Horror ๐ป for a chance to win prizes.
