Remote Assist: New Screen Recording Permissions Alert Dialog on macOS Devices

    Hello everyone,

I wanted to provide an update regarding the permissions dialog for our Remote Access offering on macOS. We recently introduced a dialog that appeared during every system login, prompting users to grant the necessary screen recording permissions that power Remote Access, without an option to opt-out, which we recognize was not an ideal experience.

We will be shortly rolling out an update that allows end-users to opt-out of this dialog, ensuring it won't appear during future logins. Instead, a less intrusive reminder will be displayed in the system notifications, where users can grant permissions if needed for future remote sessions.

As a reminder, JumpCloud MDM-managed machines automatically grant the Accessibility and Full Disk Access permissions needed for our product. However, due to Apple's privacy requirements, end users must always grant Screen Recording permissions manually. For MDM-managed machines, standard users can grant these permissions, while non-MDM machines require admin privileges.

Moving forward, we will also be working on the following enhancements:

    1. Introducing an opt-out option in the admin console, allowing administrators to completely disable the permissions dialog for their organization.
    2. Requesting only Full Disk Access permissions if only Background Access setting is enabled in the admin console.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue to improve the Remote Access experience. For any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
