EA Launch of Device Monitoring & Alerting!

I am excited to announce the upcoming Early Access (EA) launch of our Monitoring and Alerting capabilities which we expect to go live in the week of Aug 26th. This new feature set is designed to enhance visibility and control over your managed devices, offering customizable alert rules and streamlined alert management.

If you are interested in joining our Early Access program for these features, just reach out to your account team for help. 

Key Features

Set up custom alert rules to monitor:

  • Command (script) execution failures
  • Policy application failures
  • Managed software installation failures
  • System offline alerts
  • User additions to directory
  • User or user group privilege elevation changes
  • Software additions and removals initiated by end users
  • with more alert rules coming soon.. 

Streamlined Alert Management:

  • View alerts in the admin console as well as the MTP console 
  • Manage alerts with options to acknowledge, resolve, or delete alerts.
  • Auto-resolution and deduplication to reduce alert noise

Preview

To get started, log in to your admin console and click on the Alerts button in the top right corner to access the new Alerts dashboard. Initially, this page will be empty. To populate it with alerts, you’ll need to configure alert rules first.

Use the Rule Configuration link on the top right of the Alerts dashboard page to configure rules:

The +Rule button allows you to add your own custom rules. The following screenshot show a rule to monitor denied apps being installed, e.g. by end users. You can specify the target device groups, customize the name, description, conditions and priority for each rule that you configure.

Customizable Monitoring with Scripts

You can set up command monitoring rules to track any device state or metric. An alert is triggered whenever a script finishes with a non-zero exit code.

For example, the screenshot below illustrates a rule monitoring command failures. It's linked to a script that checks hourly if the network firewall is disabled. If so, it exits with a non-zero code, triggering an alert.

This offers limitless possibilities to monitor your fleet. Some other examples:

  • Monitor the status of key processes and services
  • Analyze event logs and log files
  • Check the status of antivirus software, Gatekeeper, MDM enrollment status, and more

What to Expect:

Initially, the focus is on core monitoring capabilities across macOS, Windows, and Linux desktops. Our plan is to move these features to General Availability by the end of October or earlier.

  • High uptime notifications
  • Disk usage warnings
  • Battery health alerts

Notification Channels:

  • EA & GA: In-console notifications
  • Future: Support for external notifications (e.g., email and other channels)
